How Do I SCHEDULE A Live Broadcast For Facebook?
With the launch of the Facebook Live API, Facebook users have been given the opportunity to schedule their live broadcasts so that other users can plan to tune into the stream. Scheduling a live video makes it easier to build anticipation and buzz with your audience before your broadcast begins, so that you can start strong with an audience already assembled.
When scheduling a live video, an announcement post is published to your News Feed letting your fans on Facebook know that the broadcast is coming. People who see the post can opt in to receive a one-time reminder notification that will alert them shortly before your broadcast begins. Your fans can then join a pre-broadcast lobby directly before the live video starts, where they can connect and interact with other viewers.
You can schedule a live broadcast up to one week in advance, and people can join your lobby three minutes before your broadcast begins. Once you’ve scheduled a live video, you will be able to share a link to the broadcast or embed it in other places, such as websites or blogs.
Luckily, Switcher Studio can still be incorporated for use with the Facebook Live API! The following guide will show you how to set everything up.
Navigate to any Facebook Page that you are an Admin of.
Select Publishing Tools from the menu on the top-left of the page.
Once you’re in Publishing Tools, select “Video Library” and then “Live.”
Copy down your stream credentials (e.g. steam key, Server URL). If you need to find the credentials closer to the time that you’ll be going live, they are also available by editing the post in Video Library.
Craft an announcement post for your broadcast. You can edit this later if desired.
Finalize your scheduled broadcast.
Log into switcherstudio.com.
Select "Channel Settings" from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
Select the dark blue "Add Channel" button from the menu across the right-hand side of the screen.
Enter in the Server URL and Stream Key that you copied down in part #1. It is easiest to copy-and-paste this information from your Facebook event to switcherstudio.com.
Click on "Manual Configuration" so that you can customize the properties of the Event. Many platforms will give you recommended settings to place into these values. If you are not sure of what a certain value should be, we recommend leaving it set as "Default".
Select the green "Save Channel" button at the bottom of the screen. This Channel Server will now appear inside your Switcher Studio app.
When it is time for your scheduled stream to begin, go back into your Switcher Studio app.
Make sure there is a blue checkmark in the Outputs tab next to "Custom RTMP". If there is now, tap on "Custom RTMP" to select the correct Channel Server. - Tap on "Rec+Broadcast" in the top-right corner. Rec+Broadcast should now be highlighted in red. Your stream is now completely live!
